REACH is the European Union’s regulatory system for chemicals.

REACH stands for:

Authorisation and restriction of

REACH aims to provide a high level of protection to human health and the environment through easy identification of the hazardous properties of chemical substances and the risks involved with the use of the products. Producers and importers will have obligations to ensure REACH compliance. This is to ensure that there will not be any unknown substances entering the market.

REACH Timeline

REACH is being phased in over a period of 11 years and came into force on June 1st, 2007. November 2008: Deadline for the pre-registration of all substances
December 2010: Deadline for the registration of all substances greater than 1,000 tonne/ per annum, plus some hazardous products carrying certain risks need to be registered.
June 2013: Deadline for the registration of all substances between 100 to 1,000 tonnes/ per annum. June 2018: All substances must be registered.

LUBRITA is maintaining timely, open and fair communication with all upstream and downstream (petroleum industry) partners to ensure we fully meet our legally obligations and that compliance is adhered to throughout the supply chain. We will continue to support the REACH ideals to maintain a trusted legislative system for the management of chemicals. REACH will not affect our current product offering, and we will continue to work with our customers to provide a full portfolio of Automotive and Industrial lubricants.

Understanding the Jargon
The ‘Use Descriptor System’ has been developed to standardise and simplify communication within the supply chain.
This consists of five main elements:
SU - Sector of Use. Describes the sector in which the chemical is used.
PC - Product Categories. Describes the type of end-user consumer product in which the chemical is used (e.g. the lubricant, cleaner etc.).
AC - Article Categories. Describes the use of chemicals in articles.
PROC - Process Categories. Describes the types of processes and application techniques during the manufacture and use of the chemical.
ERC - Environmental Release Categories. Defines activities for which release into the environment can be assumed.
